How do the ‘database logins’ and security model work?
Status: Reviewed
Version(s): 3.x, 4.0, 4.1

Problem: How do the ‘database logins’ and security model work?
Fix:

The security model used is a public/private setup configuration.

All users have access to the ‘Public’ username and password.
Only the ‘database administrator’ needs access to the ‘Private’ username and password.

  1. Application-users logging into Project Manager initially connect to the database as a ‘public user’
The ‘Public user’ only access rights are to connect to the database. and read the ‘Privileged’ user’s details.

  2. If the client connection ‘privilege user’ details match those stored in the database then access is granted to the application to the database tables.

  3. At this point the application-user’s details are enforced and the application user will be given access to the software based on their application and project defined access rights.
Any additions, changes, and deletions that the user makes to the database are performed by the ‘privileged’ database user.
